PLACEMAKING strategies can be used to weed out immoral activities in the city, Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa says.
“With placemaking, we identify areas that are previously known to be hotspots for vice, and look into changing them into an area with value by having healthy activities for the public,” said the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories).
“We have done this before, and we hope this can reduce areas associated with immoral activities in the city,” she said during a press conference held after the launch of Zero Waste Campaign at Kuala Lumpur shopping centres.
The launch was held at Mytown Shopping Centre.
Zaliha was responding to a journalist's question on government efforts to ensure the good image of Kuala Lumpur come Visit Malaysia 2026.
Last Friday, 201 men were arrested at a “wellness centre” in Chow Kit, which was suspected to be doubling up as a men-only sex den.
“Secondly, we have the KL Strike Force, and we carry out the KL Strike Force in collaboration with other agencies, such as the police and Immigration Department.
“When there is a complaint, especially related to prostitution, we will take immediate action to reduce these immoral activities in the city,” she said.
