Perak unveils AI integration strategy for its administration

Mohd Azlan says Perak aims to embed AI across strategic sectors.

Perak is taking a proactive and holistic approach to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its state administration.

State communications, multimedia and non-governmental organisation committee chairman Mohd Azlan Helmi (pic) said this covered key sectors such as religious governance, smart city planning, modern agriculture and human capital development.

He said the government launched the Perak Digitalisation Strategic Plan 2022-2025 in 2023, followed by the Perak Digital Economy Action Plan 2030 and the Perak Smart City Blueprint 2040, both in June this year.

“Together, these plans complement the Perak Sejahtera 2030 Plan and focus on advancing the state’s digital economy,” said Mohd Azlan during the Perak State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan in Ipoh, yesterday.

“The initiative aims to embed AI across strategic sectors, including public administration, service delivery, the economy and urban development.

“Key measures include strengthening data-driven governance, modernising operations through AI-powered automation and predictive analytics, enhancing officers’ digital literacy through training, and ensuring cybersecurity and ethical AI use.”

He was replying to Chaw Kam Foon (PH-Menglembu), who asked about the state’s policies and direction in strengthening the use of AI in the public sector.

He also asked if the state government had a strategic plan to ensure AI development aligned with ethical standards and the protection of Perak citizens’ data security.

Mohd Azlan said during briefings on the Perak 2026 budget and “Safe Internet” campaign, the state’s Digital Perak agency was tasked with preparing a strategic AI framework to harness AI technology responsibly, taking into account ethics and data protection.

He said Digital Perak was working closely with federal agencies and every initiative under the framework aligned with the national agenda in establishing an AI nation.

“The framework will be deliberated at the Digital Economy Council meeting on Dec 16.

“Workshops and engagement sessions with federal and state agencies, and industry experts, are also being arranged to ensure a comprehensive, secure and ethical implementation of AI in Perak,” said Mohd Azlan.
