A total of 42,466 SPM candidates in Johor will receive an examination kit each from the state government’s allocation of RM853,000.
SIJIL Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates in Johor will be able to enjoy free lunches during the first 10 days of the written examination period.
State education and information committee chairman Aznan Tamin said RM4.2mil had been allocated by the state government to provide free meals to 42,466 SPM candidates.
“Another RM853,000 has been channelled to provide examination kits for each of them to motivate the students to prepare for the written examinations which begin on Nov 25.
“As for the 8,317 Form Six or pre-university students who will be sitting for their Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination soon, RM2mil has been set aside for each recipient to receive RM200 in financial assistance.
“The assistance, distributed simultaneously across all 56 state constituencies in Johor, is part of the state’s efforts to motivate and support students sitting for critical national examinations, in line with Johor’s goal of nurturing quality human capital.”
In a statement, Aznan added that both the Federal and Johor government had allocated over RM150mil this year to support education and empower students across all levels, from school preparation aid to university-level incentives.
He said education remained a core focus under the leadership of Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
Among the major allocations, RM87mil was disbursed under the School Preparation Aid benefitting 582,743 pupils state-wide with RM150 each, he said, adding that RM3.3mil was channelled to provide free lunches for a month to 15,874 Form Five students from B40 families.
He said the state government also provided RM8mil in University Registration Aid to assist 16,000 students from B40 families with RM500 each when entering tertiary education institutions and RM28mil to support Johor students in public universities nationwide with RM200 each.
“To help bridge the digital divide, RM10mil has been allocated for the Tertiary Students Laptop Aid programme, which provides 4,000 laptops to B40 university students, while another RM18mil was channelled annually into the state’s interest-free education loan scheme.
“These initiatives demonstrated Johor’s determination to ensure no student is left behind due to financial hardship.”
