A symposium on the history of the Malaysian Tamil Methodist Mission drew some 210 people to learn about the legacy of faith and mission.

The event saw a diverse mix of elders and youths from across the country converge at Tamil Methodist Church in Ipoh, Perak.

The event aimed to create an academic and spiritual platform to preserve, document and celebrate the history of the Tamil Methodist Mission in Malaysia.

During the event, Methodist Church in Malaysia Bishop Dr T. Jeyakumar launched a 380-page proceedings book published by the Tamil Annual Conference.

The book compiles research papers on Tamil Methodist churches in Malaysia.

About 20 presentations exploring the history and mission of the churches were delivered during the symposium.

Organising chairman Steven Sekhar said the event was not only about preserving history, but also about passing on the legacy of faith and mission to the next generation.

“It is to ensure that the sacrifices, ministries and testimonies of past leaders are not forgotten, while at the same time encouraging young people to carry forward the same vision and mission.

“We hope the symposium can be an inspiring call to remember the past while building the future,” he said.

Before the end of the programme, two resolutions were adopted – to hold the symposium once every two years and to actively involve more young people in future research and presentations.
