Charity run raises RM126,000 for PJ centre that empowers PWD

Participants moving at a leisurely pace during the Run for a Chance event in Kepong.

FIRST, there was a drizzle, then a rainbow appeared before cheers erupted as participants crossed the finish line at a 3km charity run at Kepong Metropolitan Park in Kuala Lumpur.

The event was organised by a Petaling Jaya-based non-governmental organisation that finds employment for people with disability.

The Lovely Disabled Home’s ninth “Run for a Chance” attracted 1,356 participants, including 121 who were differently abled. Among them were 40 visually impaired.

Through perseverance and courage, RM126,000 was raised for the centre’s 2026 operational fund to provide job opportunities and life support for individuals with cerebral palsy, physical or intellectual disabilities.

From start to finish, music fuelled the runners and helped the visually impaired overcome obstacles.

There was a stirring performance of Keranamu Malaysia by the Star Music Troupe, in addition to entertainment at multiple music stations along the route.

The tunes, together with support from volunteers and family members, helped the people with disabilities cross the finish line.

Game stations and a lucky draw added to the lively atmosphere.

The participants were flagged off by several special guests including Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei and 988 radio deejays Sean Lee, PM Wang, Xiu Lam and Stephany Yao.

Since its founding in 2005 with just six members, the home has grown to 75 members.
