Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) issued four notices and one compound for Aedes mosquito breeding offences during an enforcement exercise at Pangsapuri Berembang Indah in Kampung Berembang.

The joint operation was carried out following a spike in cases at the location, MPAJ said in a statement.

The council said the apartment complex was identified as a dengue hotspot after seven cases were recorded within 45 days.

The operation, carried out with the Gombak District Health Office, involved more than 120 officers and personnel from multiple agencies, including Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), the Ampang Jaya District Police Headquarters and KDEB Waste Management.

“A total of 145 residential units were inspected, and four notices and one compound were issued for offences related to Aedes mosquito breeding,” MPAJ said.

The maximum fine for each compound is RM1,000.

MPAJ also towed seven abandoned vehicles as part of preventive measures against mosquito breeding.

KDEB Waste Management carried out cleaning works at rubbish houses and back lanes.

Checks were also carried out at six food premises and sundry shops at the apartment area.

MPAJ reported that seven compounds were issued for other offences including poor cleanliness, pest infestations such as cockroaches, flies, and rats, and failure to obtain typhoid vaccinations.

The council reminded the public, especially residents in the municipality to keep their homes clean at all times.

“Residents must ensure their surroundings are free of water containers that can become breeding grounds for mosquito larvae and Aedes mosquitoes to prevent the spread of dengue,” it added.
