TWO Malaysians are taking part in the Ironman World Championship 2025 in Nice, France.

KL Wellness City (KLWC) executive director Datuk Seri Dr Vincent Tiew and former Youth and Sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman competed in the championship, one of the world’s most gruelling endurance events.

Their journey was marked by a send-off ceremony themed “The Road to Ironman World Championship, Partners in Motion and Iron Hearts”.

The event was organised by KLWC in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, to honour the athletes and celebrate a broader message of wellness, discipline and community engagement.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, who attended the ceremony, praised KLWC for promoting sports and wellness.

“Today’s celebration is not just about the race ahead; it is about the strength of unity, discipline and community spirit,” she said.

“KLWC is showing that wellness is more than a concept – it is something we live, support and champion together.”

In a press statement, Tiew said it was an honour to represent Malaysia at the championship.

“The Ironman World Championship is more than a race, it is a journey of resilience, discipline and heart,” he said.

“As we represent Malaysia on this global stage, I am deeply honoured to carry not just my personal dream, but also the spirit of KLWC and our nation.

“This is proof that with wellness, determination and unity, nothing is impossible.”

Tiew and Syed Saddiq had trained extensively for the Ironman event.

Their participation underscored KLWC’s goal of making wellness a lifestyle, not just a message.

During the send-off, KLWC also acknowledged 13 of its strategic partners for supporting community fitness and corporate wellness efforts.

KLWC also honoured its athletes team, made up of Dr Victor Chen, Teh Kuok Yuen, Ng Choon Keith and Jacqueline Kaur – all of whom hold Malaysia Book of Records titles.

Two more athletes, Tan Hui Jin and Ivoyne Ong Suat Fan, were inducted during the ceremony.
