CALLS for a seniors’ centre, upgraded food courts and flood mitigation measures are among issues raised as Ampang Jaya stakeholders weigh in on priorities for the municipality’s 2026 budget.
Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) is currently conducting a budget survey to gather feedback from its stakeholders.
Taman Nirwana resident M. Thomas said a portion of the budget should be channelled into setting up a seniors’ centre.
“There is no proper space, not even a community hall, for the elderly and retired community to gather or carry out activities.
“We hope MPAJ will allocate funds to provide a comfortable place where seniors can meet, socialise and stay active,” he said.
Pandan Perdana resident A. Shanthi highlighted the need to refurbish older food courts.
“The newer ones like Medan Selera Pandan Indah and Laman Selera MPAJ are in good condition, but others need better maintenance, cleaner washrooms, improved lighting and more comfortable seating.
“A facelift would encourage more people to dine there,” she said.
She cited Medan Selera Bunga Tanjung and the Taman Melawati food court on Jalan Bandar as ones that need refurbishing.
Separately, during a recent budget meeting, MPAJ councillor Mohammad Firdaus Babh raised the issue of flash floods in Kampung Tasek Permai.
“I requested MPAJ to allocate funds to improve the drainage system as this has been a persistent problem for almost 20 years.
“A proper upgrade will provide long-term relief and peace of mind to the community,” he said.
He also suggested more funds be channelled into landscaping maintenance next year.
In a statement, MPAJ said it held a special finance meeting for the 2026 budget on Sept 22, chaired by deputy president Hasrolnizam Shaari.
The local council said the session provided a platform to deliberate on financial direction and strategic expenditure for 2026, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable and effective budget plan aligned with Ampang Jaya’s development goals.
The meeting also emphasised transparent governance, efficient financial management and better coordination of development projects to enhance the well-being of residents.
