Management and Science University (MSU) marked a decade of marine conservation and community engagement through MyCoral 10: A Decade Celebrating Life Below Water in Setiu and surrounding coastal communities in Terengganu.
The four-day programme brought together over 180 MSUrians, members of MyCoral community, divers, locals, alumni, strategic partners and conservation stakeholders.
The programme began with participants arriving at Penyu Bari Resort before continuing with community outreach activities at the Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan Setiu, Perkampungan Rhu 10.
Through the Embracing Community Healthcare Project (Echo), the initiative provided a mobile health clinic, health awareness activities, dental check-ups and hygiene education for the local community.
Participants also engaged in social entrepreneurship activities with MyCoral Community Divers and learning sessions at the MyCoral Community Learning Centre.
A gotong-royong initiative in Kampung Penarek encouraged collective responsibility for maintaining clean and sustainable surroundings.
The conservation-focused activities included a visit to the WWF Tuntung Sanctuary Centre in Kampung Mangkok, where participants gained insight into local conservation efforts and the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems and wildlife.
A key highlight of MyCoral 10 was the Coral Restoration Programme at Pulau Gelok, bringing participants together for hands-on reef rehabilitation and coastal cleanup activities.
The initiative highlighted the importance of restoring marine ecosystems while reducing threats posed by pollution and coastal waste.
MSU president and founder Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid joined the shore cleanup activity.
Also present were MSU vice-chancellor Prof Puan Sri Dr Junainah Abd Hamid, senior management team, alumni, strategic partners and students.
A symbolic launch was also held to commemorate the installation of the 100th MyCoral Coral Frame, alongside the MyCoral Awareness Signboard unveiling.
The programme continued in Kampung Mangkok with the Go Green Gardening initiative, focusing on mangrove planting.
At the community learning centre in Kampung Mangkok, the solar power system was activated and MyCoral Community Divers were given certificates in recognition of their contributions to marine conservation.
Through MyCoral 10, MSU reaffirmed its commitment to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being; SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 13: Climate Action; SDG 14: Life Below Water and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
The initiative was further strengthened through collaboration with Universitas Pattimura Ambon, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Politeknik Negeri Medan and Politeknik Negeri Malang.
Partners included Dorken Reef Resources, Fisheries Department and Persatuan Nelayan Kawasan Setiu, Perkampungan Rhu 10.
