MANAGEMENT and Science University (MSU) recorded its best performance in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings (WUR), climbing to the 501–550 band in the 2027 edition.
The university was ranked among 2,297 higher education institutions across 118 countries and territories, marking its third consecutive year of improvement in the global rankings.
MSU was placed in the 801–1,000 band in 2025 before moving up to the 601–800 band in 2026.
In Malaysia, MSU ranked ninth among 32 institutions assessed overall and third among private higher education institutions.
MSU founder and president Prof Tan Sri Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid (pic) said the latest result reflects the university’s continued commitment to advancing excellence in education, impactful research, innovation and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
He added that the university’s progress reflects its growing international presence and engagement.
MSU, which ranked 45th globally for International Outlook, placed third in Malaysia for the indicator with a score of 94.3%. Nationally, it ranked sixth for Research Quality at 70.2% and ninth for Teaching.
The university, in a Sept 30 press release, said its rise in the rankings strengthens its momentum in advancing its global sustainability agenda. It was ranked 88th globally in the THE Sustainability Impact Rankings 2026.
It added that the latest ranking also serves as a benchmark for the effectiveness of its internationalisation strategy, which is supported by collaborations with more than 350 universities and institutions worldwide, as well as an international student community comprising students from 82 countries.
These partnerships, it said, provide opportunities for various forms of global mobility, including inbound and outbound student and staff exchanges, industrial training and joint research through initiatives such as the Global Mobility Programme, Global Leadership Programme and Global Internship Programme.
The initiatives are further supported by Yayasan MSU’s Scholarship for Mobility and International Learning Experiences, which provides students with greater access to international learning opportunities.
MSU added that its industry talent embedded ecosystem is integrated into its internationalisation agenda through strategic collaborations with more than 3,000 industry partners locally and internationally.
This enables students to gain meaningful global exposure, prepare for the international job market, and meet the evolving needs of global industries, it said.
“Beyond industry collaboration, the university continues to emphasise graduate employability, entrepreneurship, community engagement, research, lifelong learning and flexible education.
“In line with Malaysia’s aspiration to become an education hub, MSU remains committed to building an inclusive, innovative and high-impact network while nurturing world-class graduates prepared to make an impact and lead on the global stage,” it added.
The THE WUR is a research-focused university ranking system based in the United Kingdom that evaluates five key indicators: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
