ABOUT 600 delegates are expected to attend the Penang MCA state-level annual convention at Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) Penang branch hall tomorrow.

Penang MCA secretary Yeoh Chin Kah said the two-hour convention would discuss the party’s future direction, with MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong delivering the opening address online.

“We expect about 600 delegates to attend the convention, which will last about two hours.

“We will also discuss the future direction of the party and matters concerning Penang MCA,” he said during a press conference at the Penang MCA headquarters in Jalan Transfer.

Yeoh said the Penang convention would run concurrently with other state-level MCA events nationwide, adding that Dr Wee was unable to attend in person owing to preparations for the Melaka state election.

“This year, the party has arranged for all state conventions to be held simultaneously online, allowing the president to interact with party members nationwide,” he said.

He said the convention would also feature a small Malaysia Day celebration, including a cake-cutting ceremony.

“As it falls on Malaysia Day, we will have a small celebration and plan to hold a cake-cutting ceremony,” he said.

Yeoh said Penang MCA currently has 13 divisions, adding that the annual state convention would also serve as a platform for members to exchange views and strengthen unity within the party.

The programme will begin at 2pm, following lunch from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Yeoh also reminded attendees to wear proper party attire and make the necessary arrangements to attend the annual state-level convention.

Present at the press conference were Penang MCA election preparation and scrutiny committee vice-chairman Chan Wooi Jin, state MCA Chinese associations liaison chief Khoo Soon Hin, state MCA vice-youth chief Teh Li Ren, state MCA vice-secretary Quah Lean Huat, state MCA deputy publicity bureau chief Ong Theng Soon and Tanjong MCA deputy chairman Ooi Teik Liang.
