Teluk Intan school alumni honoured at event


Former students and teachers of St Anthony’s School Teluk Intan as well as guests standing while the national anthem is played during the 47th anniversary celebration in Petaling Jaya.

THE 47th anniversary celebration of St Anthony’s Teluk Intan Kuala Lumpur Alumni Association saw awards given out to deserving members.

The event held at a restaurant in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, was attended by former students and teachers of St Anthony’s School Teluk Intan, Perak.

Also present were special guests Brother Bush from La Sale Provincialate, Malaysian Federation of Lasallian Alumni Association president Michael Simon and Malaysian athletics icon Tan Sri Dr Mani Jegathesan.

In his welcoming speech, alumni president Prof Dr Selvaraj Oyyan Pillay said alumni members and teachers’ contributions would be recognised with the St Anthony’s Alumni Meritorious Award.

A posthumous award was conferred on Paramjothy Kandiah who served the alumni for over three decades. He was the organising chairman of past dinners and held the post of treasurer before he passed away.

The late S. Savarimuthu was also honoured for his many contributions, including helping in the school’s restoration.

Accepting the award on their behalf was Paramjothy’s wife and Savarimuthu’s son.

National sportsmen R. Rama Krishnan, CKV Raja Segeran and R. Shanker were also recognised while Lawrence Geok and Choo Jee Pow were awarded for their outstanding support and coaching.

Brother Datuk JP Monteiro, who served the school from 1966 to 1968, earning it recognition through sports and other extra-curricular activities, donated 50 copies of his book, Leap of Faith, to the association during a book launch at the gathering.

Entertainment was provided by six-member band, Hipercops, from Teluk Intan.

Sponsors were also thanked for their contributions, enabling the association to continue supporting three Perak schools in Teluk Intan and Langkap.
