SIBU Kidney Foundation (SKF) has raised the alarm over the rising number of people requiring dialysis, with patient figures climbing steadily in recent years.

Its chairman Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau said the number of patients under its care has increased from 69 in 2022 to 113 in 2025.

“This surge underscores the growing prevalence of kidney disease in the community and highlights the increasing demand for subsidised treatment and support services,” he said in his speech, which was read out by his representative Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan chief councillor Kevin Lau during SKF’s Family Day celebration.

Established in 1993, SKF has three core missions: to raise public awareness of kidney health and prevention, provide affordable dialysis treatment and offer quality patient development services.

Vincent said the growing number of patients was a reminder of the foundation’s vital role.

“Kidney disease remains a serious and growing health challenge in our community.

“We must continue to enhance our services, upgrade our equipment and expand our capacity so that every patient receives the highest quality care and support,” he said.

He added that SKF was committed to strengthening its facilities, adopting innovative technologies and widening its reach to ensure patients have access to the best possible treatment.

Vincent also expressed gratitude to the foundation’s supporters.

“Your generosity sustains NKF’s mission. I hope you will continue to support their work.”

As part of the Family Day celebration, SKF renewed its pledge to keep advocating for kidney health, support patients and work towards a future where kidney disease is no longer a barrier to living a meaningful life.
