Fire breaks out at Pulau Burung landfill

A FIRE has broken out at the Pulau Burung landfill near Nibong Tebal in Seberang Prai, spreading to cover an area over three-quarters the size of a football field.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (firefighting and rescue operations) John Sagun Francis said a team rushed to the scene after an emergency call came in at 6.39am on Tuesday (Sept 23).

"When the team arrived, the fire was already raging, affecting an area approximately 100m by 50m.

“No casualties have been reported, and firefighting and containment efforts are still actively being carried out.

“A total of seven personnel, including a supervisor, are involved in the operation,” he added.
