Silver State’s housing policy to be more inclusive, with stricter rules

The Perak Housing Policy 2.0 is set to be more inclusive and aligned with current needs.

State housing and local government committee chairman Sandrea Ng (pic) said the policy to be introduced through Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) would be built on three pillars – availability, affordability and accessibility.

She said policy improvements would include stricter requirements on the percentage of Rumah Perakku units in each housing scheme and enhanced planning controls to boost the supply of affordable homes.

“The state will also improve housing specifications to ensure prices remain fair while keeping development costs manageable for developers,” she said during the state assembly sitting at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan in Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, Ipoh.

Ng was replying to questions from Wong Chai Yi (PH-Simpang Pulai) on the improvements made to the upcoming policy, the policy’s direction and measures taken to enable the elderly and young people to own homes.

Ng said the 5% of Rumah Perakku units quota for senior citizens would be maintained and improved over time in line with Perak’s ageing population.

She said youths would also benefit, with the same 5% allocation extended to them under each housing scheme to help more first-time buyers to own homes especially in urban areas.

“LPHP is working with the Construction Industry Development Board to introduce more inclusive and senior-friendly standard housing designs.

“The improvements under the policy is aimed at ensuring wider access to affordable housing while driving balanced socio-economic growth in Perak,” she said.
