IPOH: A 53-year-old man found dead in a utility room of a bowling centre at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) in Tanjung Malim had suffered cardiac arrest, said the police.

According to Muallim OCPD Supt Khalid Mohamad, following an emergency call received at 1.57am yesterday, officers and personnel from the Health Ministry rushed to the scene.

“The victim, who worked as cleaning staff at the facility, was found unconscious in a utility room within the bowling centre.

“Medical personnel performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for approximately 15 minutes before he was pronounced dead at 2.23am,” said Supt Khalid in a statement.

He added that a subsequent post-mortem at the Slim River hospital confirmed the cause of death as “sudden cardiac arrest”.

“The case has been classified as sudden death, with no foul play involved,” he added.

Earlier, Bernama reported that the man, who worked at the bowling centre, had complained to his wife about having a headache before he was found dead.

UPSI Sports Bowl manager Dzulkarnain Sapian said the employee was only found around 1am after his wife came to the bowling centre to look for her husband, who had not returned home after finishing work on Monday night.

Dzulkarnain said that he and two others experienced difficulty opening the storeroom door, which is usually unlocked.

When managed to do so, they found the victim’s body slumped against the door.

Dzulkarnain said the victim was a cleaner with the private company, UPSI Sports Bowl, which operates on the UPSI campus.
