SIBU will host the 2026 Asia Pacific Lions Leadership Summit (APLLS) from July 17 to 19.

The event is expected to draw more than 800 leaders and Lions members from 17 countries and regions.

APLLS organising committee chairman Datuk Betty Wong said Sibu’s selection as the host was a valuable opportunity to promote it on a regional stage.

She described hosting the APLLS as a significant milestone, offering the chance to highlight the town’s cultural distinctiveness and development to a wide audience.

To ensure that preparations proceed smoothly, the organising committee paid a courtesy call to Sibu OCPD Asst Comm Zulkipli Suhaili to discuss security and traffic management arrangements for the event.

ACP Zulkipli assured the committee that police would extend their full cooperation to safeguard participants and ensure the smooth running of the programme.

“We truly appreciate the cooperation of the police, as public safety and order are crucial to the success of an international event of this scale,” said Wong.
