Secure Jalur Gemilang properly to ensure public safety, Dr Zaliha tells motorists

MALAYSIANS are advised to be mindful when mounting the Jalur Gemilang on vehicles, says Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

With many motorists proudly displaying the flag ahead of the National Day celebrations, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) said it must be done responsibly, out of respect for the flag and concern for public safety.

"When raising the flag, especially on vehicles, there are rules that must be followed.

"The flag must also be secured properly to ensure it does not pose a hazard while the vehicle is moving.

“Flags not firmly attached could fly off and obstruct the driver’s vision or endanger other road users,” she said after distributing 700 flags to be fixed on the official vehicles of the government as well as its agencies at Menara Seri Wilayah on Tuesday (Aug 19).

She also said that it was important to ensure that the flags purchased were correctly designed.

"We must be careful when buying the flags to ensure they are made according to proper specifications.

"Sometimes the flag maker may not know the correct features, like the number of stripes or points on the star,” she said.

"Every symbol on the Jalur Gemilang carries meaning, and we must take care that it is accurate. It reflects our identity and unity as a nation.”
