Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Balik Pulau (MRSM BP) etched their name in the Super Schools Rugby (SSR) history books after clinching the championship with a dramatic 14-13 win over two-time winners Victoria Institution (VI) in the 2025 grand final.

The final, played before a packed crowd at Putrajaya Equestrian Park, saw MRSM BP fight back to snatch victory in the closing moments.

A decisive second try by Muhammad Firdaus Zolkfli, combined with crucial conversions from Zaim Irsyaduddin Hezrey Fardhilla and Aqil Zikry Abdul Malek, made the difference for MRSM BP to lift the Tan Sri Wan Aziz Challenge Trophy.

MRSM BP also received RM15,000 in prize money, while VI, who fought valiantly, took home RM7,000 as runners-up.

SMS Hulu Selangor (Semashur) and Malay College Kuala Kangsar completed the top four.

Firdaus, who scored both MRSM BP’s tries, was named the Milo Grand Final Most Valuable Player (MVP) and was awarded the Pos Malaysia Best Forward trophy for his performance.

“I’m incredibly proud of my boys. They left everything on the field today,” said MRSM BP head coach Mohd Izzuwan Ahmad Sukri.

“This win is the result of years of hard work, and I want to express my appreciation to Mara management for its support in developing rugby within the MRSM system.

“Today, we have proven that nothing is impossible,” said Mohd Izzuwan.

VI struck early with a try by Indra Putra Shahrulnizam and points from Umair Rayyan Mohd Sabri, who claimed the IX Telecom Top Point Scorer award.

Despite their consistency and history, VI could not hold off MRSM BP’s relentless pressure.

The other awards went to Muhammad Naufal Hafiz (SMS Pokok Sena) as the People & Pixel Top Try Scorer and Muhammad Ahzasyafi Muhd Afzanizam (Semashur) as the Unifi Best Backline Player.
