IN conjunction with Warrior’s Day 2025, the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) unveiled a special short film titled Grandpa, What’s That?

It’s a heartfelt tribute to the courage and sacrifices of Malaysia’s national heroes who have selflessly defended the nation’s sovereignty and peace.

The short film is based on the true story of Col (Rtd) Zulkifli Datuk Tahir, a Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) veteran who lost his right leg after stepping on a landmine, while leading a reconnaissance platoon of the 9th Battalion RAMD during a counter-insurgency operation in Gubir, Kedah, in 1986.

His journey is a powerful symbol of unwavering bravery and sacrifice, a legacy that continues to inspire patriotism and love for the country across generations.

LTAT chief executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said Malaysians should not just remember the Warrior’s Day, but to truly feel the weight of sacrifice made by the heroes.

“Through this short film, we honour those who walked into danger so the rest of us could walk peacefully into the future.

“Col Zulkifli’s story reminds us that behind every uniform, there is a person, a family and a future forever changed.

“At LTAT, our mission goes beyond planning sustainable retirement for the men and women of the Armed Forces.

“It is also about preserving their dignity, honouring their legacy and ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

“We hope this video will spark greater awareness, especially among younger Malaysians, about the true meaning of sacrifice, the spirit of patriotism and the importance of planning for the future,” he added.

Produced in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces and strategic communications unit of the Defence Ministry, the short film was shot at Akademi Latihan Ketenteraan in Kem Sungai Besi, Selangor.

The full video is available on all LTAT social media platforms.
