SUBANG Jaya City Council (MBSJ) is rolling out 34,000 mobile rubbish bins equipped with tracking chips in a move aimed at improving waste collection efficiency.

The bins are being distributed free to owners of landed properties who paid their assessment tax on time this year.

MBSJ Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said the bins were fitted with chips to help KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) track if contractors followed the collection schedule.

“The chip is hidden near the lid to minimise its risk of being damaged,” he said, adding that the chip could improve service efficiency.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said many residents raised concerns about public service quality following the increase in assessment tax.

“The distribution of these chip-equipped bins is one of the efforts to improve it.

“I hope this initiative will make our place cleaner,” she said after a bin distribution programme in Taman Bukit Serdang yesterday.

Wong added that the 120-litre bins would be distributed in two phases, with 11,000 of them allocated for the first phase.

“The first phase is for those who have paid their assessment tax from Jan 1 to April 30, which is the first term, this year.

“In this phase, 773 bins will be delivered to eligible residents in my constituency.”

The remaining 23,000 bins for the second phase would be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.

“Those who paid their second-term assessment tax between May 1 and Aug 31 this year are automatically eligible.

“No application is required.

“I urge those who have not paid their assessment tax for this term to pay as soon as possible.”

The first phase of the bin distribution began on July 26, MBSJ posted on its social media.
