Extra public holiday ‘boon’ for domestic tourism

PETALING JAYA: Tourism players in Selangor have been urged to take advantage of the long weekend in September to come out with tourism packages to attract visitors to the state.

Tourism Selangor chief executive officer Chua Yee Ling welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 23, declaring Sept 15 as an additional public holiday.

"This declaration would surely drive up domestic tourism as families get to enjoy a long weekend from Sept 13 to Malaysia Day on Sept 16.

"Tourism players in Selangor should grab this opportunity to come out with packages unique to the occasion to attract tourists," she said during a press conference about Tourism Industry Awards 2025 at Sunway Resort Hotel.

On a separate matter, Chua also said the Selangor Travel Fair 2025, scheduled for July 26 and 27, is expected to attract 300,000 visitors.

"Various performances as well as a buy-one-free-one campaign are awaiting," she said.

The event will be held at Pasar Seni, Kuala Lumpur.
