PART of a road verge along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah (formerly Jalan Ipoh) has caved in just weeks after it was repaired by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) complaints and welfare bureau (central) head Lee Hoi Eng called for a more sustainable solution from the authorities.
“We previously highlighted this spot, where the road shoulder had sunk by about 0.6m to 0.9m.
“DBKL responded quickly at the time and carried out repairs within a week.
“But just one week later, the road caved in again,” he told StarMetro.
Lee claimed that for the earlier repairs, only basic materials such as wooden planks and cement were used, which he said were not sufficient to withstand daily usage.
“This is a main road used by cars, lorries and many motorcyclists.
“During peak hour, motorcycles tend to weave between lanes.
“A poorly marked or unstable road edge could lead to serious accidents.”
During a visit, StarMetro found the damaged verge was deep and posed a danger to unsuspecting motorists, particularly motorcyclists.
Lee urged DBKL to place a safety cone or warning sign at the spot, pending permanent repairs.
“This issue has dragged on for two to three months now.
“We hope DBKL will carry out a more thorough inspection and implement a long-term solution,” he said. — By ALISA IDRIS
