COMMUTERS using the Teluk Gadong KTM Komuter station at Jalan Hilir are urging the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) to realign the Smart Selangor bus route to include the station.
They believe this adjustment will enhance first-and-last mile connectivity and reduce the number of single-occupant vehicles on the road.
While commuters find the Smart Selangor bus service reliable, they complain that it currently bypasses Jalan Hilir, failing to stop at the station.
Lawyer Murad Ali Abdullah noted that the nearest bus-stop is at Persiaran Raja Muda Musa (outside AmBank), which is 750m from the station in Taman Gembira.
“The Smart Selangor free bus is convenient and saves money, but some improvements at the stops are needed for a more effective and efficient service,” he said.
Murad suggested that the Smart Selangor Delivery Unit (SSDU) collaborate with MBDK to use the city council’s data to better understand commuter needs, thereby enabling seamless first-and-last-mile ridership.
“By leveraging data, SSDU and MBDK can identify travel patterns and create better connectivity for public transportation in the city,” he said after a bus ride.
He also recommended remapping the current bus route to enable connection with KTM Komuter stations.
Asiah Otsman, 65, emphasised the importance of public transport connectivity, saying it would encourage more people to leave their cars at home.
“The free bus service is convenient for avoiding the morning rush hour, but many passengers, including myself, want the bus to turn into Jalan Hilir and stop at the Teluk Gadong KTM Komuter station,” she said.
Saidah Faten, 43, pointed out that if MBDK included the KTM station in its route, it would also benefit schoolchildren attending SK Taman Gembira, located 550m from the station.
Financial consultant Harris Hamid, 27, who regularly uses the bus service, proposed introducing a battery-operated buggy service to bridge the gap from Persiaran Raja Muda Musa to the Komuter station.
“This would greatly assist schoolchildren going to SK Taman Gembira.
“MBDK could incorporate it into its corporate social responsibility initiatives, enhancing its accountability to stakeholders and the public,” he said.
When contacted, MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said the city council would evaluate commuter feedback to improve the service.
