FORTY-FIVE large roll-on roll-off (RoRo) bins placed on rotation all over Klang to collect bulk waste during the Hari Raya period have received good response from the public.
Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) Environmental Services Department director Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin said the bins were on rotation at 145 locations in the city.
“Over the past week, over 200 tonnes of bulk waste had been collected,” he said, adding that the bins would be removed from the locations on Sunday.
Bulk waste that could be thrown into the bins, Zaireezal said, included furniture, mattresses and electrical items like refrigerators and television sets.
“We are seeing good response as people are choosing to dump bulk waste into the RoRo bins instead of leaving them along road shoulders.”
He said this after meeting with Taman Setia Residents Association (Tasra) secretary K. Jayandra, to get support from residents to use the RoRo bins for bulk item disposal and get feedback on the cleanliness of the neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, MBDK councillor Mohd Rayme Abdul Rahman told StarMetro that an average of 5.8 tonnes of rubbish were collected each day from Ramadan bazaars around the city.
A total of 969.61kg of unsold food was also collected from several Ramadan bazaars and distributed to two welfare homes in Klang under the MySaveFood@Ramadan 2025 initiative, he said.
Mohd Rayme said the programme aimed to reduce organic waste being sent to landfills.
