SOME 250 members from the Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) Penang Chapter will be on duty for 24-hour ambulance service in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
They will be on standby from today until April 4, across four strategic centres throughout Penang.
This aligns with “Ops Selamat”, a safety campaign spearheaded by the police to safeguard the public during a time when there is heightened travel and activity.
MRC Penang Chapter deputy chairman Datuk Loh Nam Hooi said the initiative was an embodiment of the humanitarian spirit that defined the organisation.
He said MRC volunteers strengthened their commitment to public safety with life-saving services to provide swift medical assistant during emergencies.
“They are highly trained in pre-hospital care and emergency response."
Loh said the MRC Penang Chapter collaborated closely with the police, Fire and Rescue Department and government hospitals, ensuring an efficient and coordinated response in critical situations.
Penang youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, who launched the 24-hour ambulance service at Sunway Wellesley in Bukit Mertajam, extended his appreciation to the MRC Penang Chapter for its initiative.
“It is heartening to witness the unwavering dedication of MRC in ensuring the safety and well-being of our community, particularly during this busy festive period," he said.
“Hari Raya Aidilfitri was a testament to the values of compassion, togetherness and gratitude.
“As families gather to renew bonds, let us also take a moment to reflect on the selfless individuals who stand ever ready to serve, ensuring that in moments of distress, help is never far away,” said Gooi.
He said such endeavours not only showcased MRC’s tireless commitment but also underscored its role as a vital auxiliary to government agencies, including the police, Fire and Rescue Department and public hospitals.
“The prompt arrival of an ambulance, coupled with expert pre-hospital care, can mean the difference between despair and hope, between loss and life."
Also present was Machang Bubok assemblyman Lee Khai Loon.
