KUALA LUMPUR: A crackdown on illegal settlements set up by foreign nationals in the Segambut area saw several structures demolished and multiple people apprehended by the authorities during a special operation on March 22.
The joint operation, “Ops Ceroboh” was led by the police, with Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Immigration Department (JIM).
“Based on the investigation conducted at the targeted location, nine illegal residential structures (sheds) were found to have been built using wood and discarded materials.
“The sheds also had a natural water source distributed to all units. However, no electrical supply was detected,” DBKL said in a statement.
Demolition was carried out on the structures according to the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974.
Immigration officers also apprehended six foreign nationals and brought them to its headquarters for documentation.
Meanwhile, in Taman Melawati, Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) officers conducted a confiscation operation against assessment tax defaulters.
MPAJ stated that action was taken against nine property owners with large arrears during an operation on March 20.
Separately, MPAJ enforcement officers issued verbal warnings to several people caught fishing at Tasik Pandan Perdana in Pandan Perdana.
“Monitoring was carried out to ensure that the public complies with the fishing prohibition at the lake.
“Several individuals were given verbal warnings to adhere to the restriction,” MPAJ said in a statement, adding that the department would continue to periodically monitor the area.
Since Nov 1, 2024, fishing activities have been disallowed there as some anglers neglected to keep the lake and its surroundings clean.
Under MPAJ’s Parks Bylaw 2005, offenders risk having their equipment seized.
Additionally, they could face a fine of up to RM2,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both.
