The current condition of the MBSJ multipurpose sports complex in Pusat Bandar Puchong.
CONSTRUCTION of the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) multipurpose sports complex project in Pusat Bandar Puchong, Selangor, is on hold pending the appointment of a new contractor.
MBSJ Zone 16 councillor Lee Jen Uyin said the previous contractor had failed to comply with the set terms and regulations.
The RM16.25mil project, located across from the Bukit Wawasan hiking trail entrance, began on Oct 25, 2022.
On Aug 13 last year, StarMetro had reported on MBSJ’s announcement that the facility, initially scheduled for completion by Aug 24, would only be ready by Febuary this year.
The delay then was attributed to the unpredictable weather and uneven slope at the site.
Lee said MBSJ now aimed to complete the sports complex by the third quarter of this year.
“Residents are eagerly anticipating the completion of the project, which will feature sports facilities such as a 270m-long jogging track and seating for over 1,000 people,” she told StarMetro.
A nearby resident, who did not wish to be named, raised concerns about the availability of parking in the area.
“Visitors also come here to hike at Bukit Wawasan, which is directly opposite the sports complex’s entrance.
“While there is currently enough parking, having sufficient bays for a complex with seating for over 1,000 people seems unrealistic.
“I hope there is a solution for this,” said the resident.
It was reported that the sports complex would feature three futsal courts, five badminton courts and a basketball court.
Additionally, the facility will also have a FIFA-standard futsal court.
When StarMetro visited the site over the weekend, parking bays in the area were fully occupied and some visitors resorted to illegally parking along Persiaran Bukit (across the sports complex).
Wawasan Forest Community (WFC) chairman Joe Lim, however, said traffic in the area was manageable.
“I hope the project can be completed as soon as possible,” he said.
MBSJ did not respond to questions on the project as at press time.
