First aid charity St John Ambulance of Malaysia (SJAM) has received RM20,000 for its community automated external defibrillator (AED) project.
The donation by social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye was sourced from the sale of his book, Call Lee Lam Thye – Recalling a Lifetime of Service, according to a media statement by SJAM.
Lee was quoted as saying that the donation was his response to SJAM’s call to contribute to its AED project, which was aimed at installing AEDs in public spaces to facilitate saving lives in the event of a sudden cardiac arrest.
He also commended SJAM for volunteering during festive seasons as well as its impactful services such as running haemodialysis centres for those in need and providing emergency ambulance services.
SJAM commander-in-chief Datuk Lai See Ming and his team of national staff officers received the donation.
While expressing his gratitude to Lee for his support, Lai said Lee’s dedication to public service and social activism, particularly in safety and health, aligned closely with SJAM’s mission to serve and uplift the community.
