SERDANG, Selangor, is set to elevate its tourism appeal with the launch of the Serdang Tourism campaign showcasing local attractions.

Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki said Serdang Tourism campaign facilitated collaborations between local businesses, artisans, manufacturers and residents to promote the township’s local attractions.

“By involving the stakeholders, we hope to promote local features, revitalise the local economy and boost international recognition through tourism.

“Beyond attracting tourists, it is even more important to empower local residents to become tourism ambassadors and promote Selangor.

“One of our initiatives is to train 1,000 volunteers among the local residents to assist in promoting Serdang,” she said.

Serdang is one of the largest new villages in Malaysia and is strategically located between Kuala Lumpur and Sepang, and Wong believes this makes it a prime destination for visitors.

“Sepang serves as Malaysia’s main gateway with two international airports, so we must be well-prepared to welcome tourists.”

She said the initiative aligned perfectly with Visit Selangor Year 2025 and upcoming Visit Malaysia 2026 campaigns.

“This year is a great starting point and we will continue to build on it to ensure Serdang’s tourism continues to thrive next year,” she said as the campaign kicked off at Serdang Happiness Carnival in Seri Kembangan.

The target area encompasses Seri Kembangan and parts of Seri Serdang and Balakong.

Tourist locations include Seri Kembangan New Village, Bukit Serdang Trail and Rainbow Bridge at Sungai Kuyoh.

Meanwhile, Selangor local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim praised Wong for her efforts in attracting young people to Serdang Happiness Carnival, saying that such initiatives were crucial for Visit Selangor Year 2025.

“The carnival showcases tourism, cultural creativity and Serdang’s unique local features.

“More importantly, it attracts young people and tourists, bringing new energy and vibrancy to the new village,” he said.

Puchong MP Yeo Bee Yin commended the organisers for their dedication to the carnival and expressed hope that it would continue in the future.

She also highlighted an initiative by Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) to create a competition for the redesign of Pasar Awam SK 10 in Seri Kembangan.

“Ninety participants submitted their designs and 10 were shortlisted,” said Yeo.

“We have an open-minded mayor who allows the hawkers, traders and public to choose their preferred designs for the Seri Kembangan public market.

“The final design will not be chosen solely by the city council but by the people who will use the market, ensuring it meets their needs and requirements.”

She described this as a positive step towards involving the public in infrastructure planning and hoped this approach could be expanded across Selangor.

Also present at the launch was Subang Jaya mayor Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim.

The carnival included booths as well as games and activities for all ages, while visitors were greeted by Bling Bling, the official mascot of the Serdang Tourism campaign.

The starfruit-shaped mascot harkens back to the area’s history, as the fruit was once widely planted in Seri Kembangan.
