Malaysians should emulate Sarawak which has strong and harmonious racial unity, says Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang.

He said Sarawak was not only the best model for inter-racial relations but had also proven that diversity was an asset that must be preserved.

“We need to educate our children that diversity is an invaluable treasure for the country.

“Sarawak is the best example of uniting various races harmoniously.

“I urge our friends in the peninsula to learn from Sarawak and Borneo as a whole,” Chang said at the PKR Central Zone Chinese New Year celebration in Sibu.

The ceremony was attended by more than 500 guests including PKR branch leaders from Saratok, Tanjung Manis, Igan, Sarikei, Julau, Kanowit, Sibu, Mukah, Selangau, Kapit and Baram.

Also present at the event were PKR Central Leadership Council (MPP) members Datuk Romli Ishak and Datuk Hans Isaac and Sarawak PKR State Leadership Council (MPN) chairman Roland Engan.

Meanwhile, PKR Lanang chairman Michael Lee expressed his hope to invite party president and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to Sibu, to strengthen ties and study the needs of the people in central Sarawak.

Lee called on all parties to work together to realise the invitation.

During the festive event, Chang also announced a personal contribution of RM30,000 to implement a flood mitigation programme in Sarawak.
