CELEBRATING Chinese New Year with students at the Special Children Society of Ampang (SCSOA), Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd (BPMB) contributed RM20,000 in support of the society’s programmes.

Performances by the children were followed by a feast for the students, their families and the BPMB staff present.

BPMB chief human resource officer Sainursalwa Sani expressed hope that the donation would help sustain SCSOA’s work.

“This occasion is about coming together as a community to celebrate the joy and hope that Chinese New Year brings.

“At BPMB, our purpose is rooted in delivering impact capital for national development.

“This includes supporting organisations like SCSOA which create meaningful opportunities for individuals and their families.”

SCSOA president Christine Wong expressed her gratitude for the bank’s invaluable support.

“It allows us to continue providing quality education, life skills training and a safe space for children and young adults with special needs.

“Celebrations like today remind us of the power of compassion and shared purpose,” she said.

Set up in 1999, the SCSOA provides a nurturing environment for children and young adults with disabilities such as Down Syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome and epilepsy.

The centre helps its 60 students, aged between three and 43 years old, to maximise their potential so they can live fulfilling, independent lives.

It also provides a range of services from education and life skills training to recreational activities such as music and swimming.

The SCSOA’s aim is to empower students from lower-income groups, single parents and the unemployed by helping their children achieve independence and fulfil their potential.
