Kepong residents irked by incessant road noise

Traffic issues on the road in front of the apartment complex include noise and double-parked cars.

RESIDENTS of an apartment complex are irked by traffic congestion on Jalan Metro Perdana Barat in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

Community activist Yee Poh Ping said several complaints have been lodged about vehicles double-parking along the road in front of Fortune Perdana Lakeside Residences that contributed to the congestion in the area.

He said the shops in the complex were popular but there were not enough parking bays for customers.

He added that it was also common to see lorries blocking traffic as goods were unloaded in front of certain shops during business hours.

Yee said tempers would flare and motorists end up honking at one another as traffic came to a standstill in both directions.

A resident who wanted to be known only as Kok said noise from the road could be heard even on the 16th floor of the apartment complex.

“The noise reverberates throughout the complex until night, before quieting down as shops close for the day,” said Kok.

She added that residents also had to use other entry and exit points to access the complex because of congestion.

Yee said at least 13 business owners operating at the complex’s shoplots had signed a petition calling for realignment of the road.

It was previously reported that the congestion in the area had been brought to the attention of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in January 2024.

Yee said in July last year, a DBKL-appointed consultant had examined the road and found that it was suitable to be changed from the current two-way system to one-way traffic.

He added that the residents and shop owners were awaiting DBKL’s decision.
