TO IMPROVE the comfort of patients and healthcare workers, facilities such as restrooms, and surau at Hospital Sultanah Aminah (HSA) are being upgraded.
Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the state government had allocated close to RM700,000 for the improvements to HSA, known as Malaysia’s second busiest public hospital.
“The project involves providing better facilities in 80 toilets to make these more accessible for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
“The toilet upgrades are scheduled to be completed by the end of February,” he said when interviewed.
Ling added that works to improve the hospital’s surau facilities would start after the restrooms were upgraded.
“Improvements to HSA’s electrical, fire suppression and air-conditioning systems in its main building are also being carried out.
“Major works started in 2023 and are expected to be completed next year,” he shared.
Ling said the works would not disrupt the hospital’s operations but cautioned that certain wards might need to be temporarily closed, and patients transferred to suitable alternative areas.
Ling said this in his recent visit to HSA to inspect the progress of the upgrades.
He also visited other hospital areas such as the men’s wards.
In conjunction with the Chinese New Year, Ling gave out mandarin oranges to healthcare staff.
Ling said he would continue visiting HSA to listen to feedback from healthcare workers and patients on how the state government could further improve the hospital’s facilities.
“For this year’s state budget, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has allocated over RM10mil to support the public healthcare system statewide.
“Johor government remains committed to improving the quality of public healthcare institutions and services for the people,” he said.
