THERE are adequate bays available for the public at the parking area near Ipoh Railway Station, a Railway Assets Corporation spokesperson says.
This is despite 30 bays being reserved by the Perak Bar Committee for exclusive use of its members.
The spokesperson, in giving this assurance, said there were still about 65 bays available to the public.
“The Perak Bar will mark the designated rented bays.
“Members of the public or commuters can use existing parking bays at the station as well as those managed by Ipoh City Council.
“We do not foresee any issues arising from this arrangement as there are alternative parking areas and public transport services in place.
“Additionally, public transport options such as e-hailing and taxis remain available, with designated drop-off points at the railway station,” the spokesperson said.
There were public concerns about the difficulties of finding parking near the station after it was learned that the Perak Bar had secured a portion of the parking area.
The spokesperson added that the parking area had been previously left unmanaged, leading to cleanliness and safety concerns.
“Perak Bar expressed interest in leasing the area to set up dedicated parking for lawyers while ensuring proper upkeep.”
On its webpage, Perak Bar chairman Balakrishna Balaravi Pillai said parking at the designated area would be free for members.
“Members are advised to purchase Perak Bar or Malaysian Bar car stickers from the Perak Bar Secretariat to access this parking area.”
Balakrishna said an additional 10 parking bays had been secured at Perpustakaan Tun Razak but members would have to pay to park there.
“These parking spots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis,” he said.
“We hope these additional parking facilities will provide greater convenience to our members, especially those attending to court matters.”
