CAR-Free days are a good way to get people to ditch their vehicles and take public transport in Putrajaya.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the city’s car-free day was more than an approach to reduce carbon emissions.

“It is an effort to improve air quality and create a healthier environment,” she said.

The event in the administrative capital, organised by Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), is held on the second Sunday of every month at Persiaran Perdana in Precinct 3.

January’s event was launched by Dr Zaliha, who in conjunction with Federal Territories Day 2025, gave out FT Day flags to participants.

This year’s celebration was themed “Wilayah Persekutuan Kita”.

“The theme echoes the values of harmony and a strong community spirit among residents in the Federal Territories,” she said.

“It also reflects close cooperation in advancing the development of the Federal Territories.”

Flags were also distributed to participants of Langkah Ceria, a walkathon and jogathon event.

PPj implemented the car-free day event towards meeting Putrajaya’s aim of achieving low carbon model city status by 2030.

The event also involved strategic partners such as Youth and Sports Ministry and the private sector.

These sponsors added to the day’s excitement with a variety of fun family activities.

These included the hoisting of Federal Territories flag, aerobics, pickleball, inline skating, push bike races and an inflatable playground.

Some participants also received a crash course on skateboarding.

The event gave the 3,000 participants a chance to take part in recreational activities while enjoying the natural and built landscapes along Persiaran Perdana and the Boulevard.

Also present was PPj president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud.

Separately, Dr Zaliha said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) was in the process of improving the issuance of licences for Ramadan bazaars in the capital city this year.

“DBKL will take steps to ensure eligible traders secure licences to operate.”
