Shah Alam City Council suspends theme park activities after accident

THE Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has suspended all activities at a famous theme park following an incident where a float from a glass water slide dislodged and fell on a visitor.

MBSA announced the strict action of closing the project site and suspending activities until official approval is obtained.

The council stressed that all development projects and theme park operations in Shah Alam must comply with local authority regulations and procedures.

This includes obtaining written approval from MBSA before any construction or activity begins.

MBSA's Corporate and Public Relations Department stated that several warning notices had been issued to the theme park to ensure compliance.

Actions included warning notices dated Nov 14, 2024, to halt and demolish non-compliant structures under Section 80 of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 (Act 133), and ensuring signboards during construction per Section 82 (1) of the same Act.

A warning notice was also issued to stop unapproved construction work under Section 72 (1)(a), and a compound notice for improperly placed building materials under Section 47(2)(a).

Further actions included a Form F Notice under the Town and Country Planning Act 1976 (Act 172) on Nov 22, 2024, requiring planning permission applications for unauthorized development.

Additionally, a Form G Notice was issued on the same date to halt all unapproved development activities.

In January 2025, a Form H Notice instructed the restoration of land to its original condition after failing to secure planning permission.

The council expressed concern over the theme park's management ignoring procedures despite numerous warnings.

A warning notice was issued on Jan 19, 2025, to halt the Glass Water Slide activity under the Selangor State Enactment on Entertainment and Entertainment Places 1995, Amendments 2001, Section 6 (1)(a).

Despite this, monitoring revealed continued unauthorized activity, leading to a Non-Compliance Fine Notice issued on Jan 30, 2025, under Section 121 of the Street, Drainage, and Building Act 1974 (Act 133).

MBSA regrets the incident on Jan 29, 2025, which went viral on social media, and emphasizes public safety as a top priority.

The council is committed to enforcing compliance with laws and will take firm action against violations to ensure public safety and well-being.

MBSA urges all theme park operators and related industries to adhere to established regulations to protect public safety.
