THE Thaipusam Task Force (TFF) is gearing up to deploy over 1,000 dedicated volunteers at temples nationwide for this year’s Thaipusam celebration on Feb 11.
According to chairman G. Gunaraj, at least 500 volunteers will be stationed at the iconic Batu Caves temple in Gombak, Selangor, where they will be active during the three busiest days leading up to the festival.
“These volunteers will play a vital role in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring devotees are aware of the dos and don’ts during the festivities,” he said during a press conference in Petaling Jaya today (Jan 27).
With an estimated two million visitors expected at Batu Caves during the Thaipusam period, TFF is partnering with NGOs such as Clean Thaipusam and Cuci Malaysia to coordinate efforts.
Among the volunteers are also 200 youth volunteers from the Human Resources Ministry’s Wira Kesuma programme.
“The steady rise in volunteer support over the years has been instrumental in making this possible,” said Gunaraj.
He said that volunteers would help to clear rubbish outside the temple compounds and assist devotees throughout the period.
