KLINIK Kesihatan Gersik in Muar is temporarily operating from a nearby hall as its premises is being upgraded.

Johor health and environment committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said the public health clinic had not undergone any major work since it was built in the 1960s.

“The main structure of the clinic is still made of wood.

“It is high time the health clinic underwent a major upgrade to improve its condition, for the comfort of patients.

“Muar Health Office has prioritised the clinic as one of those that will be upgraded this year,” he said, adding that the project would take about nine to 10 months to complete.

To make way for the project, the clinic’s operations had been moved to a public hall some 300m away, said Ling.

“The project should not disrupt the clinic’s operations as the hall has been turned into a temporary healthcare facility with emergency rooms.

“The clinic typically sees about 200 patients each day,” he said.

He added that Health Ministry had upgraded 55 clinics and rural clinics over the last two years.

“The state Health Department has identified another 45 clinics to be upgraded.

“We hope our efforts will also help to raise healthcare delivery standards for the people,” he said.
