MORE than RM20mil has been raised through a charity dinner in Kuala Lumpur to help students in need.

The funds from Tapestry of Colours Charity Dinner 2025 will be used to provide scholarships to those from disadvantaged backgrounds via Yayasan Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (YUTP).

At the event, Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib expressed his appreciation to donors and sponsors.

“Your generosity is an investment in a student who may one day change the world.

“It is an investment in a community that will flourish because of that student’s success.

“It is also an investment in humanity because when one person rises, we all rise together,” he said in his speech during the dinner in Kuala Lumpur.

He noted that the charity dinner, organised once every two years, raised impressive amounts each time.

“Since its inception in 2007, YUTP has awarded RM105mil in scholarships and bursaries to more than 2,600 students.

“These are not only financial aid, but also lifelines, promises of hope and a belief in the boundless potential of each student,” said Prof Mohamed Ibrahim.

The foundation, he said, aimed to support students’ development in research and innovation, academics, technopreneurship, leadership, arts, culture, sports and community activities.

“Over the years, we have witnessed remarkable stories of students’ extraordinary achievements in their studies and careers.

“They are living proof of how education transforms lives, reminding us that behind every scholarship is a story waiting to unfold and a future waiting to be built,” he said.

This year’s dinner was also held in conjunction with the university’s 28th anniversary.

In addition, a crowdfunding campaign for three student-led social responsibility projects was launched and more than RM50,000 raised.

Later, several UTP alumni shared their success stories with the more than 500 guests, while the dinner entertainment included retro-style performances by UTP students.

Also present at the event was PETRONAS chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, who launched two new gamelan albums by Sanggar Kirana gamelan group comprising UTP students.
