Many areas of concern in Masai

A very swollen Sungai Masai following heavy rain. Clogged drains are contributing to the flash flood problem in Masai, Johor, says a councillor.

Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) has been urged to address concerns regarding pedestrian safety and parking congestion near SK Kota Masai 3 in Taman Kota Masai, Pasir Gudang in Johor.

MBPG councillor in charge of Kota Masai 3, Rap’enah Ali said there was a need to widen pathways to accommodate parking space for parents picking up their children.

“This problem is particularly noticeable during peak hours when narrow roads become congested with vehicles parked along the road,” she said during the MBPG full board meeting at Menara Aqabah.

She said a review of the area’s layout or alternative solutions could be implemented to improve road safety.

Rap’enah also proposed relocating the planned Kota Masai 3 multipurpose hall from Jalan Dukong to Jalan Nenas.

“Jalan Nenas has a higher population density.

“Relocating the hall there will benefit more residents who can make better use of the public facility.

“We hope the project can be expedited,” she added.

Rap’enah also raised concerns about the poor state of back roads and drainage systems in Kota Masai 3.

“Many back roads are blocked and in disrepair, and the drainage system is not properly maintained,” she said, calling for urgent action to upgrade or thoroughly clean the drains.

Meanwhile, MBPG councillor Madyasir Ahmad Basir, who oversees Masai, said Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) had been called upon to address flash floods caused by clogged drains in Sungai Masai.

“DID has been clearing debris from the river following flash floods.

“The department is also working to widen the river,” he said.

Madyasir said a request had been made for the drains along Jalan Besar Masai to be widened.

“This low-lying area is a hotspot for flash floods.

“Improving the drainage system will create a safer route for all road users in Masai,” he said.
