Going strong 40 years on

Takaful Malaysia’s 40th anniversary celebration themed ‘Sustainable Legacy’, in Kuala Lumpur.

Insurance company Takaful Malaysia has continued to record strong and consistent annual growth since it was established four decades ago, its chief executive officer (CEO) says.

The group’s CEO Nor Azman Zainal said the company was ranked in September among the top five for the 20 best-performing stocks over a 26-year period.

He said the company had surpassed RM3bil in sales over the past three years, with pre-tax profit exceeding RM500mil.

“Over four decades, Takaful Malaysia has achieved a lot of success and received recognition nationally and internationally.

“Despite the challenges of a competitive market, I am proud that our management and workforce have continued to work together, ensuring that Takaful Malaysia remains relevant and is the preferred choice for Syariah-compliant protection solutions,” he said during the company’s 40th anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur.

The event themed “Sustainable Legacy” was launched by Dr Muhamad Razak Idris, who is political secretary to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

The theme reflected the importance of continuity in ensuring that the legacy left behind has a positive impact, remains relevant and creates lasting value.

Nor Azman said the company was also looking forward to focusing on investments in technology and digital innovation to ensure the future sustainability of the business.

The move was also to stay competitive in the insurance and takaful industry, in line with current market demands, he said.

He announced that the company would also launch the Takaful 100 Youth Leadership programme next year as part of its initiative to secure the future of the nation.

“This programme aims to nurture young talent in fields such as actuarial science, finance, accounting and information technology.

“Takaful Malaysia plans to collaborate with local universities offering takaful-related degrees and identify potential students to join this programme,” he said.

During the celebration, a Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to former Takaful Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Fadzli Yusof.

In his speech, Mohd Fadzli said many countries had turned to Malaysia for advice after Takaful Malaysia was established.

He also recalled a time when the founders had to manually write the company’s manuals at his house, with his wife preparing the tea while he served it.

The recognition was given in appreciation of his leadership and significant role in developing the company since its establishment in 1984.
