More Sibu villagers encouraged to apply for RSP units

Dr Annuar says only 88 applicants out of 156 met the qualifications to buy affordable homes under the RSP Kemuyang project.

AFFORDABLE housing is still available for extended families of the residents of Kampung Datu Lama, Kampung Hilir and Kampung Datu Baru.

Through the Spektra Housing Project (RSP) in Kemuyang, Sibu, eligible villagers will benefit from one of the Sarawak government’s programmes to address housing needs of those in the B40 and M40 categories.

RSP Kemuyang has a total of 186 units that cost between RM90,000 and RM160,000 each.

Nangka assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee called on these residents to inform members of their extended families of this opportunity to apply for a Kemuyang RSP unit.

Dr Annuar, who is also Sarawak’s Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation, and Talent Development, said interested applicants could meet him at his office to complete the RSP application process.

“Currently, we have received 200 applications,” he said, disclosing that only 156 of them met the basic requirements.

“However, after further screening by (state-owned financing agency) Mutiara Mortgage and Finance (MMF), only 88 individuals qualified,” he revealed.

The rejected applicants did not meet the financial criteria to buy the units, he said.

The deputy minister was speaking at the closing ceremony of the “Archiving Today’s Knowledge and Record for Tomorrow’s Accessibility and Browsing” programme.

Dr Annuar stressed that the RSP Kemuyang project was aimed at expanding the three villages of Sibu town.

“Therefore, villagers with extended families who are living with in-laws or who are renting accommodation are encouraged to apply before we consider opening it up to others,” he added.
