KLANG Royal City Council’s (MBDK) first mayor Datin Paduka Noraini Roslan officially retires on Wednesday (Nov 20).

She had served as mayor for nine months, from Feb 2024 after the council was made a city.

Noraini was appointed as Klang Municipal Council (MPK) president in Jan 2022 for a two-year term after she took the reins from Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin who was appointed as Selangor state finance officer.

Before her current role, as mayor of MBDK she held notable leadership positions, including serving as Subang Jaya mayor and overseeing its transition into a city in October 2020.

“It was a great moment to have been able to have worked to turn MPK into a city,” she said.

Klang is the fourth city in Selangor after Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, Noraini added that the job had been challenging at times but also gratifying as she helped to improve the city.

Noraini also served as Hulu Selangor District Council president in 2017, as Kuala Selangor District Council president (from 2011 to early 2017), at the Petaling Jaya City Council from 2010 to 2011, and as MPK Town Planning Department head (from 1989 to 2010).

Besides her experience in managing local councils, she is a qualified town planner with a master’s degree in regional planning from North Carolina University in the United States.
