Kajang council to collect parking fees at 17 more locations

Nazli says MPKj will intensify efforts to legalise factories operating without a permit.

KAJANG Municipal Council (MPKj) will start collecting parking charges at 17 more locations in three zones from Nov 1.

In the Kajang zone, areas affected include Jalan Berjaya Baru 1, Jalan KLLN 3, Lorong Kajang Raya 1, Jalan Jelita 1, Jalan Zamrud 1, Taman Putra Kajang commercial area, TTDI Grove (west) commercial and Ecohill Taipan commercial area in the Semenyih zone.

In Cheras zone, parking charges will be imposed at Jalan Suarasa 8/2, 8/3, 8/4, 8/5 and 8/7; Jalan Suadamai 1/2 and 1/3; Jalan Suasana 2/7 and 2/7A; and Jalan Suakasih 1/2 and 1/3 in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn; as well as Jalan Damai Perdana 5/1 and 5/1B in Bandar Damai Perdana commercial area.

MPKj said in a statement that 3,206 parking bays were involved in this initiative.

“Motorists in these areas will be given some leeway in the next two months to familiarise themselves with the implementation of parking fees.

“The total number of paid public parking space under the council’s jurisdiction stands at 25,380 bays,” it said.

Under Road Transport Orders (Allocations of Vehicle Parking Spaces) MPKj 2007, motorists will be charged 50sen per hour while monthly passes cost RM74.20.

Yesterday, MPKj president Nazli Md Taib told reporters after a full board meeting at Menara MPKj that the move was aimed at increasing the council’s non-tax revenue.

“The council is also going to intensify efforts to legalise factories that have been operating without permits.

“One of the hotspots is the Semenyih industrial area where many factories are unlicensed.

“Some have erected structures that violate guidelines.

“Ensuring they rectify this and legalise their operations will ensure safe practices at these factories,” he said.
