THE main access road of Jalan Kolam Air in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, has been repaved and reopened, to the delight of nearby residents.

One side of the road leading to Taman Desa Melawati had been closed for many years to facilitate sewerage upgrading works.

Resident of Desa View Tower Condominium, Idayu Jais, said the stretch had been in a bad condition.

“It was difficult to drive on the road as our vehicles would get damaged,” she said.

“We had to resort to using alternative routes to exit the neighbourhood.

“Residents are happy that the road has been reopened fully.”

Desa View Tower Joint Management Committee member Mohd Ridzuan Zainol Abidin said they were relieved to be able to use the road.

StarMetro had reported in July last year that parts of the road had been closed for several months.

The upgrading project, carried out by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Ministry’s Sewerage Services Department, began in 2018 but was delayed for various reasons, including the Covid-19 pandemic.

Kuala Lumpur Advisory Board member Andre Lai said the upgrading project had faced several hiccups and had to be abandoned.

“Aside from a change in contractors, I was told that the project could not be completed due to several technical issues.

“Once this was made known, the machinery was removed and the road repaved,” he said.

Lai also thanked Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for resurfacing the road. — By JAROD LIM
