Batik ideas to feature at Asean 2025

Batik designs produced through a competition organised by Securities Commission of Malaysia (SC) and MyCreative Ventures Group will be showcased at Asean 2025.

SC Corporate Resources director Meha Kasbun said in addition to the opportunity to be highlighted on the global stage, the competition could also promote sustainable batik practices among players in the batik industry by highlighting more environmentally friendly manufacturing.

“The Sustainable Batik Design Competition is held to promote and showcase the richness of our batik heritage in line with the call and aspirations of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,” she said on a Bernama TV programme.

MyCreative Ventures business development and strategic communications assistant vice-president Rafiezi Tahir said the initiative was aimed at encouraging the use of natural dyes among batik designers.

“Awareness related to the sustainability of batik among the community including batik designers is still low.

“We still use dyes that have chemical elements. So, when there is an initiative like this, we can help promote and encourage the use of natural dyes,” he said.

Rafiezi said the competition was still open until Oct 31 to all Malaysians, aged 18 and above. Each interested party can only submit one entry.

The first prize winner will receive RM30,000 cash and trophy, with second place taking home RM15,000 cash and trophy, and third place, RM10,000 cash and trophy.
