Nine Johor flood mitigation projects ongoing

Mohamad Fazli: A special committee for high-impact projects had been formed.

NINE out of 11 flood mitigation projects approved by Federal Government in Johor are being implemented with one at pre-implementation stage.

State works, transportation, infrastructure and communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh said the completion of the flood mitigation projects had been brought forward from 2029 to 2027.

He said this in reply to Hasrunizah Hassan (BN-Pulai Sebatang) during the Johor State Assembly sitting.

She had asked about the status of six long-term and five short-term flood mitigation projects, with a cost of RM1.8bil.

Mohamad Fazli answered that six of the long-term flood mitigation projects were currently being implemented.

Three short-term projects were also underway with one more at pre-implementation stage.

He added that at state government level, a special committee for high-impact projects had been formed, chaired by the Mentri Besar and himself.

“The committee will monitor, coordinate and facilitate between various agencies and stakeholders to ensure the projects run smoothly and effectively to achieve flood mitigation goals.

“In addition, this year the state government has forwarded its application for 15 flood mitigation projects amounting to more than RM1.9bil under the 12th Malaysia Plan in its fifth rolling plan.”

To supplement federal funding, the state government had allocated RM14mil for flood mitigation projects, he added.
