No plans to close GISB premises in KL, says city mayor

KUALA Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has no plans to order Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) premises in Kuala Lumpur to close, says mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif.

“We did not get any instructions to close the premises. The police investigation is still ongoing," she said at a press conference on Thursday (Oct 3).

Maimunah said this when asked if DBKL would be shutting down GISB-owned premises, adding that such closures would depend on the instructions received.

“If we get the instructions to close such premises from the higher ups, we will cooperate fully,” she said.

On Sept 28, Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the Selangor government had ordered all GISB premises in the state to be closed and all of the company’s assets to be confiscated

On Sept 11, through Op Global, the police raided 20 charity homes in Selangor and Negri Sembilan linked to GISB for alleged child and religious exploitation activities.

Since Op Global began, more than 300 individuals including GISB's top management have been arrested and 572 victims have been rescued.
