OUR country is blessed with waterfronts lining the eastern and western shores.

Thousands flock to these sandy stretches on weekends and public holidays to enjoy a quick getaway from the city’s hustle and bustle of day-to-day life.

Apart from bathing in the sea and making sand castles, other common activities include kite-flying and blowing soapbubbles.

Others simply want to soak up the atmosphere and recharge before heading back to work or school after the holiday ends.

In Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, a number of watchtowers can be found along the beach where visitors can enjoy a better view of the surroundings.

Beachgoers also often indulge in local delicacies from nearby food stalls, savouring fresh seafood and traditional snacks.

Those who enjoy water sports like jet-skiing, para-sailing and snorkelling can head to Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan.

Plenty of operators here also offer tent rentals priced at RM50 per day.

This service is only available on certain beaches though.

Due to its relatively short distance of about 95km from Kuala Lumpur and being easily accessible in the Klang Valley, Port Dickson tends to draw urban folk especially on weekends.

Some city dwellers may head to Morib in Banting, Selangor, which is about 80km from the city centre.

There are also plenty of resorts and chalets in Port Dickson and Morib for holidaymakers to extend their visit.
